Children's Book Author Faces New Charge Of Sexual Assault Of Girl, 9

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A children's book writer accused of molesting a 12-year-old female relative pleaded not guilty Friday to sexually assaulting another young girl, according to a prosecutor.

Michael William Snyder, 44, is accused of performing oral sex on a 9-year-old girl in his home before taking her to Sea World on Sept. 7, 2010, Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Walker said.

On another occasion, he allegedly put his hand up the child's shirt, Walker said.

Snyder, a San Clemente resident, was arrested March 9 and charged with molesting the 12-year-old in his home between June 2010 and March of this year, Walker said. She said the younger girl came forward as a result of media coverage of the first alleged victim.

Snyder, who earlier posted bail but was arrested again Thursday, was ordered held on $1 million bail at his arraignment today, Walker said.

On Snyder's children's book website -- beetlebugbooks.com -- he is identified as Mr. Mike. His books include "Lemon Drop Rain," "Swimming In Chocolate" and "Over the Top." He also has had speaking engagements at elementary schools, Walker said.

If convicted of all charges, Snyder faces a maximum sentence of 30 years to life in prison.
