3-Year-Old Girl Killed, 2 Others Injured In Front-Porch Shooting

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — Authorities are searching for the shooter who killed a 3-year-old girl and critically injured two other people as they sat on their front porch in San Bernardino.

The shooting took place around 8 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of D Street.

Police said the survivors, a different 3-year-old girl and her pregnant mother, are in critical but stable condition. They are expected to survive.

The shooter was reportedly arguing with the mother when a passerby intervened, and the gunman turned on him. He instead shot and killed a little girl and two of her relatives.

"I just know the family was crying, "Marie Ortiz told CBS2. "The mom was crying; the grandma was crying. I had to pray for her, pick her up and say to her, 'Everything's going to be OK.' She was three years old and the mom was just in shock."

Authorities only have a vague description of the shooter, who they say walked up to the home and opened fire on the victims.

Several people who were home at the time were taken to a police station for questioning.

The suspect reportedly came to the house looking for another man inside.

Earlier in the day, that man had intervened in a fight the gunman was having with another woman. Police say that the suspect was physically assaulting that woman. They're hoping that woman comes forward to offer information on the suspect.
