Suspected DUI Motorist Plunges 500 Feet Down Steep Embankment

GLENDORA (AP) — A man is suspected of being drunk when he drove his car off a foggy Southern California mountain road, injuring himself and two passengers.

California Highway Patrol Officer Theodore Jolin tells the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that the unidentified man's car plummeted 500 feet off the forest road north of Glendora and came to rest at the foot of a steep embankment.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, climbed back to the road and was taken to a hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries.

His passengers were retrieved by rescue crews and flown by helicopter to hospitals in unknown condition.

Jolin says officers noted alcohol on the driver's breath. He says fog limited visibility to 20 or 30 feet at the time of the accident.
