Fire Damages Hollywood Hills Home Owned By Jack Nicholson

HOLLYWOOD HILLS (CBS) — Two firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a Hollywood Hills home owned by Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson.

The blaze, which was reported about 7:54 p.m. Friday, broke out in the 7000 block of Woodrow Wilson Drive near Mulholland Drive.

The home is registered to a J.J. Nicholson, which is the birth name to the actor. He has reportedly owned it since 1975, but hasn't lived there for years.

The single occupant, an older gentleman, was able to escape the flames uninjured.

Two firefighters were transported to local hospitals with heat-exhaustion and potentially more serious injuries. Their current conditions are unknown at this time.

Firefighters had also dispatched water-dropping helicopters because the home is surrounded by heavy brush. They, however, weren't used.

"The first arriving companies had to work their way up a very long and steep driveway to a location where this fire was," LAFD Asst. Chief Scott Mottrin said. "We were fortunate to keep the fire confined to the residence."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
