Reese Witherspoon Hit By Car While Jogging In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Actress Reese Witherspoon is one of Hollywood's heavy hitters but as Serene Branson reported for KCAL9 News at 10 p.m., she couldn't avoid a real life collision with a moving car Wednesday.

Witherspoon, 35, was struck by a car while jogging in Santa Monica on Wednesday and suffered what was described by a spokesperson as "a minor injury."

She was taken to a hospital but Branson reports the Oscar-winning actress was later home resting comfortably.

There was a tiny amount of blood at the scene, reported Branson. Witnesses said Witherspoon had a possible head injury.

Police said the Oscar-winning actress was hit by a car driven by an 84-year-old woman as she jogged south on 20th Street.

Witherspoon was jogging in an unmarked but legal crosswalk in Santa Monica when the driver struck her at about 20 mph.

Eyewitness Wayne Harding told Branson he knew something was up when he saw all the police commotion in the normally-quiet neighborhood.

The driver was interviewed and released. But she was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
