Happy Birthday, LA! City Of Angels Is 230 Years Young

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The city of Angels is kicking off a month-long celebration to mark its 230th birthday this weekend!

A cake-cutting ceremony is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Olvera Street. The city, in conjunction with El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument Sunday, have planned the event that will include traditional dancers and music.

On Saturday, the Queen of Angels Foundation honored the city's history and heritage with a procession. It went from Olvera Street, which is the oldest street in Los Angeles, to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, where a mass was held followed by a reception.

Los Pobladores, the LAPD's Color Guard, the Boy Scouts Color Guard and several other civic organizations staged the event.

Organizers hope to revive the traditional procession.
