LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The California Highway Patrol is in the midst of its maximum enforcement period for this holiday weekend.
All available officers are expected to be out on patrol searching for drunk driving, speeding and other traffic violations on our roadways.
The maximum enforcement period is scheduled to continue through midnight Monday.
So far, the CHP reports that arrests of motorists on suspicion of drunken driving are up from last year’s total of 990.
Statewide, the CHP made 1,008 DUI arrests this year, 227 of which were in Los Angeles County.
The drunken driving tally reflects only arrests made by CHP officers and the numbers are current as of 6 a.m. Sunday.
