Off-Duty LAPD Officer Dies After Being Run Over By Big Rig In Motorcycle Crash

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An off-duty LAPD officer has died after being run over by a big rig following a motorcycle crash on a Los Angeles freeway Friday.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. on the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway at the northbound Pasadena (110) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles, according to the CHP and the LAPD.

Officials say the officer was passing the truck when he lost control of his bike.

"The passing truck ran over the officer's motorcycle and then the officer," Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The officer was taken to County USC for treatment, where he died Friday afternoon.

His name has not been released, but officials say the officer is a 24-year veteran who is a detective in the Foothill division.

Officials didn't not say how the accident happened.
