Police responded to a call in the 3600 block of Marysville Boulevard just before 6:30 p.m Thursday evening and found David Senk, 54, with blood on his face.

A witness notified officers that Senk had taken two large bites out of their live python.

Animal Control officers were called to scene to secure the snake, which appeared to be injured. The snake later had surgery to remove some of its ribs and is expected to recover.

Police said they have no motive for the attack.

Senk was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on one count of felony animal torture. Bail has been set at $10,000.
