Beyonce Steals The MTV Video Music Awards By Announcing Her Pregnancy

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Katy Perry may have taken home the MTV Video Music Awards biggest honor, picking up Video of the Year for "Firework," but it was Beyonce who stole the show.

The network says its annual show honoring the top music videos attracted 12.4 million viewers, a nine percent growth from last year and a network record.

Beyonce upstaged every performer at Sunday night's show before it even began when she announced she and hubby Jay-Z are expecting a baby.

The soon-to-be-30 superstar arrived on the carpet holding her bulging belly while dressed in a loose-fitting, flowing red gown.

Later in the evening, she performed "Love on Top," in a sequined tux and danced around in her signature stilettos. She didn't utter a word about the pregnancy, but ended the number by taking off her jacket and rubbing her swollen belly; while an elated Jay-Z hooted and clapped for his wife, as Kanye West hugged him.

The news of the couple's impending parenthood overshadowed the rest of the evening's events. From Lady Gaga dressing up as her male altar-ego Jo Calderone, to the planned dance battle between the members of Odd Future and Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Seth Rogen, nothing out shown the news of the soon-to-be parents.

But still, some celebrities were there to be fans themselves.

"Lady Gaga is like my Jesus, she's like everything to me and I like, work off her," said MTV reality star Snookie.

Britney Spears was honored Sunday night with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and also won for best pop video.

Sunday night's show also featured a tribute to Amy Winehouse, featuring Russell Brand, Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars, who performed the singer's hit "Valerie."
