2 Navy SEALs Killed In Afghanistan To Be Buried In San Diego

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Two Navy SEALs who were killed Aug. 6 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan are being buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

Petty Officer 1st Class Darrik C. Benson, who grew up in the small Napa Valley town of Angwin, was laid to rest there Monday following a private ceremony. The 28-year-old was the father of a 2-year-old boy and had planned to marry after his tour ended in September.

Lt. Cate Wallace, a spokeswoman for the California command, says Petty Officer 1st Class Jesse Pittman of Willits, Calif., will be buried there Tuesday following a private ceremony. He was 27.

The men were among 30 Americans and eight Afghans killed Aug. 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade disabled a transport helicopter in Afghanistan, causing it to crash.
