Excessive Heat Watch In Effect For SoCal Saturday

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The National Weather Service has declared an excessive heat watch for much of the Southland.

The watch means that a prolonged period of high temperatures is expected. It is set to expire Saturday evening.

Forecasters predict highs for Saturday of 81 in Avalon and Los Angeles International Airport; 90 in Long Beach; 93 downtown; 94 on Mount Wilson; 97 in San Gabriel; 99 in Burbank and Pasadena; 104 in Lancaster, Newhall and Palmdale and 105 in Woodland Hills.

Temperatures are expected to drop considerably starting Monday in coastal and metropolitan Los Angeles, as well as the San Gabriel Valley.

Health experts recommend staying indoors with the air conditioner on, wearing light, loose-fitting clothes and hydrating frequently.
