MALIBU (CBS) — A small boat, believed to be a panga, has been found in the waters off Leo Carrillo State Beach.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Border Patrol and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene around 8:45 a.m. Friday.
No passengers were on the boat at the time of its discovery.
Drug and human traffickers have been using small panga boats to reach Southern California shores in recent months, officials said. At least five other boats, some containing illegal immigrants, have been found along the coast since spring.
Authorities have not confirmed if this boat was used by smugglers.
The Coast Guard towed the small boat to Marina Del Rey.
