Caught On Tape: Car Explodes In Front Of Firefighter

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Amateur video taken last week shows a car exploding in front of a Los Angeles firefighter in the Mid-Wilshire area.

A crew responding to a car fire on Detroit Street stayed calm even as an electrical fire turned into a massive explosion.

Despite thick black smoke, flames and glass flying through the air, the firefighter closest to the vehicle continued to battle the blaze.

The firefighter stayed safe due to his protective clothing, as well as a required breathing apparatus.

Officials say they will use the video, which has received more than 100,000 hits on YouTube, for training purposes.
