Man, 95, Stung By More Than 200 Bees In Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH (CBS) — A 95-year-old Redondo Beach man was stung by more than 200 bees Wednesday, according to officials.

The man was taken to a hospital in Torrance where he will be kept overnight for observation. The man is in stable condition.

Officials say the man was walking in the 1700 block of Ruxton Lane just before 3 p.m. when he was attacked by a swarm of bees that are believed to have come from the attic of an apartment building at Ruxton and Rockefeller Lanes.

Redondo Beach Police Sgt. Phil Keenan said every inch of the man was stung. "They went into his ears, the palms of his hands, his arms, his face, his neck, everything that was exposed."

Fortunately, the man is not allergic to bees.

Los Angeles County Vector Control officials told the Daily Breeze that they believed the bees may have been Africanized honey bees.

The bees previously built a hive in the same apartment and were fumigated out, according to officials.
