Chatsworth Double Murder Suspect Charged With 8 Felonies

SAN FERNANDO (CBS) — A man suspected of killing two people in Chatsworth and opening fire on police as they closed in on him weeks later in Encino was charged Wednesday with eight felony counts, including assault with a firearm on a peace officer.

Brent Zubek, 43, was ordered to be jailed without bail pending arraignment Sept. 19 in San Fernando Superior Court on six counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer and one count each of possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a loaded, stolen firearm.

KNX 1070’s Claudia Peschiutta reports.

Prosecutors have not yet filed any murder charges against Zubek, citing an ongoing investigation into the Aug. 12 discovery of the decomposing bodies of a man and woman in a trash bin in the 20400 block of Lassen Street.

Zubek was being sought by authorities in connection with the slayings when he was wounded in a shootout with police Monday morning.
