As they approached the house, one of the officers was shot in the forehead and his skull was fractured.

He was listed in critical, but stable condition Monday evening.

Investigators believed the suspect, Kevin Collier, died inside the home.

The body of a baby girl, believed to be the Collier's daughter, was found nearby.

Monday afternoon investigators uncovered a second body from the ruble believed to be that of Collier's 51-year-old mother-in-law, Beverly Rakov, according to El Cajon police spokesman Lt. Mark Coit.

Both bodies were burned beyond recognition so forensics tests were pending for for positive identification, Coit said.
