USC Could Keep NFL Out Of LA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The University of Southern California may have what it takes to keep the NFL out of LA.

USC's lease with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum allows the university to have veto power over any move allowing a professional team play there while a new stadium is built downtown.

City councilman Bernard Parks believes the university is using that as leverage to gain "near-total" control of the publicly-owned stadium.

The Coliseum is home to the USC Trojans and has also hosted two Olympics, as well as the Chargers, Raiders and Rams.

NFL officials say another option would be for the new team to play to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

A USC spokesman says the school is open to discussion on a mutually beneficial arrangement.

The NFL has not had a team in Los Angeles since 1995.
