LA Immigration Officer, Son Get Prison Time For Bribery, Fraud
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former immigration official and his son have been sentenced to prison for convictions on bribery and fraud charges.
Seventy-two-year-old Fernando Jacobs of Upland was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison and fined $30,000, while his son, 44-year-old Patrick Jacobs of Ontario, was sentenced to four years in prison.
The elder Jacobs worked for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Prosecutors said he and his son sped up some cases and wrongly provided authorization for travel to and from the United States for others.
Fernando Jacobs was ordered to begin serving his sentence immediately. His son has been in custody since his arrest in 2009.
