42-Year-Old Bicyclist Struck, Killed By SUV In Irvine

IRVINE (CBS) — A 42-year-old bicyclist has been struck and killed by a vehicle in Irvine.

Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen said a driver in a sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound on Shady Canyon Drive when it struck the bicyclist.

When paramedics and police arrived just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, two other cyclists were trying to revive the victim by administering CPR, Engen said.

The bicyclist, who was only identified as an Irvine resident, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a hospital, Engen said.

The 35-year-old woman driving the SUV and her infant passenger were not hurt in the collision, Engen said. The driver's name was not released.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Dennis Maisano at (949) 724-7023.
