Little League Baseball Championships Give Big Boost To San Bernardino Economy

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — It's a little league series with a big return...literally and financially.

Championship little league baseball returns to San Bernardino this weekend.

And just as it has been doing for the past 40 years, the games are expected to give a financial boost to the local economy. How much of a boost? Huge! Officials estimate the little league games bring an additional $25 million to the area.

San Bernardino will play host to teams from eleven Western states (including two from California), all here for an eight-day tournament. (The California teams, if you are keeping score at home, are from Huntington Beach and another from Northern California.)

Go Huntington Beach!! (Not that we are picking favorites or anything.)

The top two teams advance to the little league world series.

CBS2's Greg Mills spoke to a mom from Bothell, Washington. She estimated her family of five was spending close to $3,000 for car rental, lodging, food and airfare.
