LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing in Abilene, Texas, late Tuesday night.

The pilot reported problems around 11:30 p.m. and told passengers he needed to get to the ground as soon as possible.

The plane was originally headed to Dallas, but landed safely just 200 miles away.

No one was injured.

What was failed to mention was that there were only two taxis running that night. The entire American airlines crew left the passengers at the airport and went to a hotel. The airport which has one terminal and stated that they were not equipped to handle this type of situation was able to provide 40 cots for over 100 passengers. There were people sleeping in the luggage carasols and on the floor. Abilene airport personnal were the ones that took care of the passengers to the best of there ability. American airlines should be ashamed of the captain and crew who bailed out on ther responsibilities to take care of there passengers and not leave them deserted in a small unfamiliar town. The captain even reported that the generators were broken 3 days prior. Many passengers family members drove to Abilene and picked up there relatives. Kudos to the staff at Abilene airport and shame on American Airlines for abandoning you passengers/paying customers that way
