LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police released surveillance video Monday showing a mugger choking a blind woman before running off with her jewelry during a brazen attack in downtown Los Angeles.

The robbery took place at around 12:00 p.m. on July 24 on First Street in Little Tokyo.

The 68-year-old woman was pushing a walker when a man wearing a white shirt and ball cap snuck up from behind and grabbed her around the throat.

The man ran off with the victim’s gold chain and jade pendant, worth about $100.

“This is shocking to watch, especially when you consider this woman is legally blind,” said Los Angeles police Lt. Paul Vernon.

Anyone knowing more about the crime was urged to call police detectives at (213) 972-1251, or Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
