Ex-Suspect In Stow Beating Calls On Judge To 'Do The Right Thing'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Attorneys for a Las Vegas parolee wrongly accused in an assault on a fan at Dodger Stadium want a judge to order their client's release from prison.

Attorney Jose Romero met with Giovanni Ramirez, 31, at Donovan State Prison, where he is serving 10 months for a parole violation after he was arrested at a home where a gun was found.

While he was initially named as a suspect in the beating of Brian Stow back when he was arrested May 22, Ramirez was never charged and has now been cleared of any involvement in the incident.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reports his attorney says the parole board has not responded to an appeal, so they filed court papers asking a judge to order Ramirez to be released.

"More than anything I'm upset, not for myself, but for the grief and embarrassment that my friends, family and loved ones have been put through," Ramirez said through his attorney.

"My only focus and attention is with the writ that has been filed this week," Ramirez added. "I know the judge in Superior Court will do the right thing."
