Pedestrian, 27, Killed By Out-Of-Control Driver, 73

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 27-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday morning by an out-of-control motorist in Los Angeles, police said.

The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Vermont Avenue and Eighth Street, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A 73-year-old Los Angeles woman driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder southbound on Vermont veered into the northbound lanes of traffic and then ran off the roadway, Rayner said.

"Yueany Qisquina of Los Angeles was walking southbound on Vermont Avenue on the east sidewalk when he was hit by the careening vehicle," Rayner said.

Qisquina was taken to a hospital where he later died, she said.

Edward Lawrence, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says Qisquina's church (Iglesia Cristiana Pentecoste Betel, 5411 South Broderick, Los Angeles, CA 90037, 323-751-4642) is raising money so they can send his body back to his native Guatemala. (Bank of America account: 0563306934).

The driver was not cited or arrested, Rayner said.

Police asked anyone with information about this fatal crash to call Officer Zachary Hutchings of the LAPD's West Traffic Division at (213) 473-0238.
