BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBS) — One officer was stabbed and the suspect shot dead in a confrontation Saturday afternoon in Boyle Heights.

Reports of an “officer down” came in at 4:55 p.m., according to a desk officer at the LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division.

Initial reports said officers were chasing someone who stole an ambulance.

Later, police explained that an inmate — being released from the downtown Twin Towers jail — was being transported by private ambulance.

LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said the suspect lept from the moving ambulance, ran  into a church on Bridge Street than barricaded himself inside.

The suspect reportedly stabbed the officer in the bicep with an 8-inch knife. He is in stable condition.

KCAL9 and CBS2’s Suzanne Marques reports the suspect is dead.

Rich…I work for the Los Angeles City Fire Department and I am one of the few firefighters that takes the key out of the ignition when getting to the hospital and unloading my patient. Most guys shut off the ignition and leave the key in the ignition. Yeah…they are fuking amateurs.

      1. Randy says:

Well and good, taking the keys out and shutting off the rig when you get to a hospital, but they leave it running when they’re in the field on a medical aid call. If you were really a firefighter, you’d know that.

Boyle Heights, little third world toilet bottom feeding ILLEGAL ALIENS. Surround the city, and ship everyone to their arm pit country.

since you like to run your mouth why don’t you be the first one down there to handle it

Big John, get on these big walnuts.

  2. c-man says:

I hope it was an LAFD ambulance.

    1. Randy says:

Another site reports it was a private ambulance transporting a prisoner from Twin Towers. Sorry to disappoint you.

randy dont be a moron its highly unlikely it got riped off IN THE FIELD there is most times cops and other emergancy responders in the area during that time so its more likely it got riped off at the hospital as the fire fighter said or maybe at a food stop

So are those Guatemalans from Rampart gonna protest the shooting of another knife wielding suspect?

  5. Rick Rossi says:

This story makes no sense. or else the inmate was able help himself to strong pharmacueticals inside the ambulance. The whole story is still hard to swallow.

Maybe the truth is not acceptable or legal. The inmate was not being released from jail – he was taken out.

  6. William50 says:

Read the story folks, the initial reported story was a stolen ambulance but was corrected. 4 out 5 people are commenting on a stolen ambulance, one little line in the story. Rick Rossi, your one of the biggest jerks of all. You made this into a conspiracy story.

  7. rich says:

william those of us that commented on the STOLEN AMBULANCE line of the story did so when that was the story it got corrected AFTER all of us made our comments about it but now in light if the corrections my new question is if this guy was an inmate being transfered someplace in this ambulance WHO forgot to cuff his butt to the strecher??
