Nevada Man Arrested In 30-Year-Old Yucaipa Murder

YUCAIPA (AP) — A Nevada man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a murder nearly 30 years ago in Southern California.

The San Bernardino Sun says 51-year-old Bernhard Hahm of Douglas County, Nev., was arrested there Saturday. He was returned to San Bernardino County and remains jailed Thursday.

It's not clear whether he has an attorney.

Authorities believe Hahm fatally beat 62-year-old Ralph Knappenberger of Yucaipa in October 1982. Sheriff's deputies were called after a neighbor saw blood on the sidewalk outside an apartment and heard moaning inside. Knappenberger was found in a bedroom and died of his injuries several months later.

Investigators say the victim had given Hahm a ride a few days earlier but detectives couldn't locate him. A cross-country search began when the case was reopened last year.
