Union Pacific Train Derails In Littlerock
LITTLEROCK (CBS) — A Union Pacific freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in Littlerock, prompting the evacuation of dozens of nearby residents.
The accident happened near 92nd Street East and East Avenue T around 1:30 p.m. Sixty-two cars derailed, of which half are overturned, according to Los Angeles County fire officials.
Fourteen tankers were carrying unknown hazardous materials, but officials say they are not leaking.
Two people were on board operating the train at the time of the accident. No injuries were reported, officials said.
It was unclear what lead to the train's derailment.
Officials say evacuated residents may be able to return home as soon as Thursday.
