Santana Pitches Angels' First No-Hitter In 27 Years
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Angels' pitcher Ervin Santana pitched the team's first no-hitter since 1984 on Wednesday afternoon, leading Los Angeles to a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Santana dominated the Indians, striking out 10, but allowing a run in the first inning on a wild pitch. He got outfielder Michael Brantley to fly out to centerfield to end the game.
He needed 105 pitches to complete the rare feat. Santana threw 76 of those pitches for strikes, improving his record for the season to 6-8.
His teammates immediately mobbed him on the field with hugs, handshakes, and high-fives.
The last time the Angels had a no-hitter was Sept. 30, 1984.
