LA Man Charged In Debit Card Swiping Scam At Chase Bank

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A Los Angeles man was charged on Wednesday with stealing info from bank customers by secretly swiping their debit card info.

San Diego County District Attorney Bonny Dumanis said Daniel Axinte, 49, is accused of placing debit card skimming devices on the security door to the lobby and ATM machines at the Chase Bank branch in the 13000 block of Black Mountain Road in San Diego.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reports Axinte allegedly hit the bank after it closed — and did so for six consecutive weekends.

"We believe the defendant has stolen information from about 970 ATM debit cards," said Dumanis.

Chase Bank has reported an initial loss of well over $100,000, she added.

Any customers who have visited the branch in the last six weeks are being urged to contact the bank to ensure their accounts have not been compromised.
