Gas Company Cuts Rates For Customers On Medicaid, Gov't Assistance

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — If you're having trouble paying your gas bill, you may be eligible for some help.

The Southern California Gas Co. on Wednesday urged customers who are struggling with payments to see whether they qualify for a 20 percent discount.

Customers receiving MediCal or Medicaid benefits or other government assistance may automatically qualify.

"We strongly encourage customers to call us, especially if they're having trouble paying their bill by the due date," said Hal Snyder, the Gas Co.'s vice president of customer solutions. "By calling us, they can learn about the programs we offer and payment arrangement plans that can work for them. We are here to help."

The utility also has energy-saving programs for qualified renters and homeowners.

For more information, visit the Southern California Gas Co. website or call (800) 427-2200.
