Lawmakers Approve LA County's First Off-Leash Dog Park

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved funding to develop Los Angeles County's first off-leash area for dogs in a county park.

The 1.5-acre park in the northwest section of the Crescenta Valley Community Regional Park will have separate entries and areas for small and large dogs. It will include drinking fountains, water faucets and hose-off and shady areas for the dogs, plus benches for their owners.

The Crescenta Valley Dog Park will serve as a pilot program, said Russ Guiney, director of parks and recreation for the county.

It will be built by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps with $645,000 in excess funding available under the Safe Neighborhood Park Proposition, approved by voters in 1996, Supervisor Mike Antonovich thanked the Crescenta Valley Town Council and its president Cheryl Smith, who he said had been championing the idea of the park for years.
