Controversial Red Light Cameras Could Be Shut Off Sunday
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A City Council committee wants controversial red light cameras to be phased out by the end of the month.
Despite objections from the LAPD, the committee has recommended that lights at 32 different intersections across Los Angeles no longer be used to issue citations.

In 2009, a CBS2 investigation found that accidents went up after the red lights cameras were installed.
The program costs the city $1 million, but council members say the lack of enforcement to get people to pay the $480 tickets is one of several reasons to scrap the program.
The full council will vote on Wednesday.
