Is LA Prepared For A Massive Quake?

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Haiti. Chile. Japan. New Zealand.

Is California next?

Massive quakes have been striking all over the globe. This Sunday, at 6:30 p.m. CBS2 anchor Laura Diaz takes a closer look at the question on a lot of people’s minds. How ready is California in “Earthquake: Are You Ready?”

In “Eye on Our Community,” Diaz investigates just how ready the Southland is for a huge quake.

It’s been 17 years since we were rocked by a huge and deadly event. Will we see something on the scale of Northridge and 6.7…or worse?

Laura Diaz talks to victims from that quake and she goes behind-the-scenes with the Emergency Operations Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The special looks at products that can save your family from injury, talks to the Red Cross about valuable lessons learned from the quake in Chile, ways to be prepared and a look at disaster from the eyes of a firefighter.

Are we ready? Are … you? Watch Laura Diaz’s special Sunday to find out.

Who cares? Why all the fear mongers. 99% of what people worry about never happens

      Then why are you commenting?

Um California just had an earthquake 7/23/2011 ,my whole family is going crazy

I lived on the east coast and west coast. It is good to be prepared. Being prepared for an earthquake is like being prepared for any other disaster.

Drinking water, first aid kit, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, blanket, toiletries, medication, cash (in small denomiations), personal phone book with all the important numbers, extra charged cell phone battery, corded phone, safe meeting place for family members, provisions for pets, gun and ammo for protection.

Remember during a real disater there will be no power so cordless phones are useless and cell phone will become usless if the power is out for an extended amount of time.

Yes Susan, I agree – In fact, we missed the special report this evening and I am entirely unable to find it on the website. I am only able to find the preview video.
