PICO RIVERA (CBS) — An investigation continues Thursday after the remains of a young man were found in the backyard of a Pico Rivera home, authorities said.

Family members told CBS 2′s Christine Lazar that the victim was 19-years-old and had been missing for several days.

The overnight investigation began around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after the remains were found buried in the home’s backyard in the 8500 block of Pico Vista Road, Los Angeles Sheriff’s officials said.

Officials have not released the manner of death, but did confirm that the body was not dismembered as originally thought. No arrests have been made.

A friend of the deceased told news crews that the man was a gang member “who got chopped up into pieces.”
