Homeowners Could Be Forced To Pay For Sidewalk Repairs
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The city's new sidewalk repair plan would force homeowners to fix broken concrete in front of their properties.
The Los Angeles City Council heard from critics of its new proposal at a public works committee meeting on Wednesday.
The city has been repairing sidewalks for decades, but one councilmember says a new law would make homeowners liable for repairs the city can no longer afford to fix.
A report presented at the hearing estimates repairs could cost the average homeowner $3,000 to $7,000.
The committee held off on a decision, but voted to study the issue further.
