Convicted Child Molester Arrested In Whittier For Allegedly Annoying Teen

WHITTIER (CBS)  — A deputy with the sheriff's Parks Bureau arrested a convicted child molester outside the Sorenson Library in East Whittier Wednesday.

Michael Pappas, 48, of Whittier, was booked at the sheriff's Pico Rivera Station on suspicion of annoying a child, according to deputies.

A deputy allegedly saw Pappas standing over a 16-year-old boy outside the library. The deputy said the boy seemed nervous and upset.

The boy told the deputy that Pappas offered him $25 if he would go home with him and help him inject his diabetes medicine, deputies said. They added that the boy refused but the suspect was persistent.

Pappas was detained, and the deputy checking his background learned he had been convicted of lewd or lascivious acts on a child and annoying a juvenile. Bail was set at $150,000.

Anyone with information about Pappas was asked to call sheriff's Sgt. Al Leyva at (310) 877-7498.
