Compton City Council Approves Controversial Budget, Job Cuts

COMPTON (CBS) — The Compton City Council has voted to approve a controversial budget that will eliminate 91 jobs and 90 vacant positions.

“We are appalled. We are appalled on every level,” Cheryl Parisi of the Coalition of Compton Unions told CBS2. “This budget will decimate services to the city of Compton. It involves the reduction of over 30 percent of the workforce.”

However, council members staved off bankruptcy by balancing the budget. They also cut off threats from the city treasurer, who said he would stop cutting payroll checks to city employees.

Unions and employees say they will now file a lawsuit accusing the council of violating the city charter and abusing its power.

Honestly, we should work on getting rid of counsel members, since they find it so easy to dimiss working people and still wake up with a job they should be dismissed too.

This part time city council that is making full time pay find it easy to cut jobs so that the mayor can try to restore the Compton Police epartment. The next election will see the mayor and councilwoman Dobson bite the dust.

Wow, they have a balanced budget and people are upset.

Get rid of inflated union wages and hire more people.

I AGREE WITH WILLIE THAT THE COUNCIL MAKES FULL TIME PAY AND FINDS IT EASY TO CUT JOBS AND I THINK THE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL SHOULD BE VOTED OUT. IT’S EASY FOR THEM TO LAYOFF EMPLOYEES WHEN THEIR THE ONES NOT GETTING LAID OFF. THE CITY HAS MANY NEW VEHICLES, WHERE ARE THEY GETTING THE MONEY?
