La Habra Man Charged With Defrauding Elderly Couple Wanted By The FBI

LAGUNA NIGEL (CBS) — The FBI is looking for a fugitive charged with defrauding an elderly couple out of nearly $5 million who recently skipped his bond.

John Arthur Walthall, 55, was arrested by the FBI in 2009 for swindling millions of dollars out of Laguna Nigel couple. An indictment states that the victims, both of whom were in their late 80s, gave Walthall more than $4.7 million dollars to invest in technology aimed at finding gold in abandoned mines.

According to the indictment, Walthall, of La Habra, used the money for alimony and child support payments, rent and other living expenses.

FBI officials say Walthall did not appear at a bond hearing in late June and a bench warrant has since been issued.

Walthall is described as a white man with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds.

Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI at 1(888) 226-8443.
