LONG BEACH (CBS) — Residents of an apartment building in Long Beach said Monday they heard screaming before a woman stabbed her husband to death.

"I told my husband, I said 'I hear noise, I hear screaming and hollering, something is going on," she said. "Both of them are on drugs...she killed him, I know she did."

Police arrived at the two-story apartment building near 7th and Long Beach around 1:30 early Monday morning and found the man dead.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for superficial injuries.

The woman initially was held on suspicion of  murder, but investigators later determined she acted in self-defense.
