Boy, 5, Hit By Car While Riding Bike In Desert Hot Springs Dies

DESERT HOT SPRINGS (CBS) — A 5-year-old boy, who was hit by a car as he rode his bicycle in Desert Hot Springs, was taken off life support, it was announced Sunday.

The victim, whose name was unavailable, was riding with his father and friends about 8:45 p.m. Thursday when he was struck while crossing Palm Drive between Caminos Campesino and Aventura, according to police.

The boy was initially taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, but was then moved to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

According to police, he was not wearing a helmet.

The driver, who police only identified as a female, remained at the scene and was cooperative. She was not suspected of speeding or driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked that any witnesses to the incident call the Desert Hot Springs department at (760) 329-2904.
