LAX FlyAway Bus Lines Altered Due To 405 Closure

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Some travelers who rely on FlyAway buses to get to and from Los Angeles International Airport can expect schedule changes and longer travel times this weekend due to the closure of the San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass.

LAX FlyAway service to/from Union Station and Irvine will operate on its usual schedule, but adjustments will be made to service on the Van Nuys and Westwood lines.

The Van Nuys FlyAway service will still operate around the clock, but the usual morning schedule of four buses every hour in each direction will be reduced to two per hour. During the early morning and late-night hours, when traffic is lighter, the buses may take surface streets through the 405 closure area. The rest of the day, however, the buses will take longer routes through downtown Los Angeles, using the Glenn Anderson (105) and Harbor (110) freeways, then back to the San Fernando Valley.

The Westwood FlyAway will operate on its normal weekend hours. On Sunday, however, its usual schedule of two trips per hour will drop to one per hour, with buses taking surface streets to reach the Westwood area around the closure area.

LAX officials urged people who are flying this weekend to plan ahead and leave earlier than usual to ensure they arrive at the airport on time. They also urged people to consider staying a hotel near the airport if they have an early morning flight.

Regular updates on FlyAway bus drive-times, airport operations and traffic conditions around the airport will provided on the airport's website -- www.lawa.aero/lax -- and via Twitter at www.twitter.com/LAX--Official and on LAX AiRadio 530 AM.
