Emergency Crews Prepare For 405 Freeway Closure

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles Fire Department will have extra firefighters, engines and trucks patrolling the Sepulveda Pass this weekend to make sure response times aren't affected when the 405 Freeway closes.

The Getty Center will also be used as a command post for accidents and emergencies.

As KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reports, the Getty Center will be an essential resource in the event of a wildfire.

The 405 Freeway itself can even be used as a landing pad, but helispots will also be available nearby at UCLA, which is one of the busiest trauma centers in Southern California.

Private helicopters will be on standby, and doctors, nurses and other employees will stay on campus in 250 dorms throughout the weekend.

The full closure will last 53 hours, beginning at midnight Friday and ending Monday morning at 6 a.m.
