Police: Arson Suspected In Fire At San Diego Zoo Gift Shop

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A fire that destroyed a gift shop at the San Diego Zoo was the work of an arsonist, police said Monday.

The zoo was closed when the early morning blaze destroyed the Panda Gift Shop located about 50 yards from the giant panda enclosure.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reports officials have confirmed the fire was intentionally set, but they aren't saying much else amid the ongoing investigation.

"Investigators are looking at every and all possibilities related to the case," said Maurice Luque of San Diego Fire Dept. "They're taking in the full gamut of things like we would on any fire investigation that involves arson."

Other than the gift shop, no other buildings were damaged.

No animals or humans were injured.
