Tehachapi City Councilman Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Boy, 16

TEHACHAPI (AP) — A Tehachapi city councilman is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy.

Bakersfield police say 41-year-old Daniel Reed was arrested at his home Thursday and booked on suspicion of sodomy and oral copulation with a victim under 18.

Sgt. Mary DeGeare told the Bakersfield Californian that Reed met the alleged victim through a mutual acquaintance and that the abuse reportedly started in February.

Reed has served on the city council since December 2008 and also works as a Kern County fire engineer. According to a biography on the city Web site, he previously worked as a paramedic and state correctional officer.

Reed declined an interview request by the newspaper. Tehachapi Mayor Ed Grimes confirmed that he knew of the arrest but declined further comment.

Reed is being held on $275,000 bail.
