Diocese Of Orange Interested In Bidding For Crystal Cathedral

GARDEN GROVE (AP) — The bidding war has intensified for the site of Southern California's famed Crystal Cathedral Ministries, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange on Wednesday said it is exploring the possibility of adding its name to the list of potential buyers of the sprawling property that features a glass spire seen from miles away across Orange County.

Already included are Chapman University, which is considering building a medical school on the site, and Orange County-based real estate investment firm Greenlaw Partners LLC.

The Crystal Cathedral aims to sell its property -- and lease portions back for use for services -- to help erase its $36 million mortgage and wipe out almost $10 million in unsecured debt.
