Teen Fatally Struck While Trying To Dash Across PCH

DANA POINT (CBS) — An 18-year-old woman from Cypress was killed Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the Pacific Coast Highway, an Orange County sheriff's lieutenant said.

Sheriff's Lt. Lloyd Downing says the accident took place on the PCH just south of Crown Valley Parkway around midnight.

Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger said the victim was identified as Allix Barz.

According to authorities, Barz was with a friend when she tried to dash across the busy coastal route and was struck by a 2002 Mercedes SUV driven by a 17-year-old boy. Her friend was uninjured.

It was not yet known who is at fault, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident, Downing said.

PCH was temporarily closed between Crown Valley and Ritz Carlton Drive to accommodate the investigation.
