SANTA ANA (CBS) — Orange County law enforcement agencies have arrested 83 people for drunken driving in the first 48 hours of the holiday weekend crackdown, a deputy said Sunday.

The enforcement period began 12:01 a.m. Friday. During that same window last year, there were 47 drunken driving arrests, authorities said.

Deputy Wayne Howard of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau said there have been no traffic deaths caused by drunken drivers reported so far in Orange County during the enforcement period.

“We will continue our enforcement efforts through the holiday weekend,” Howard said. “Hopefully, people will realize the seriousness of this problem, utilize some common sense and be responsible by using a designated driver or doing their celebrating at home.”

Concentrated patrols will continue through Monday night, he said.

Great. People need to show some responsibility and understand cars are not toys. They kill. If you’re drunk, call a friggin cab. I hope the expenses and fees of getting your license back hurts your pockets.

I love it because an apology after you kill someone is unacceptable. Nice to see law enforcement spending tax dollars on a cause that actually kills innocent people instead of arresting non-violent prostitutes on Harbor Blvd that don’t mind getting arrested over and over again because all the take free quick cash they make is just as addicting as cocaine.
