2 Teens To Be Tried As Adults In Alleged Gang Rape

MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — Two Moreno Valley teens will be tried as adults on charges that they, along with several others, gang-raped an 11-year-old girl in a park bathroom.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that the two teens face charges of rape, sodomy, oral copulation and lewd acts with a child under 14.

The only adult in the case, identified as 19-year-old Michael Sykes, plead not guilty to charges of rape and kidnapping for rape in the March 10, attack at Victoriano Park.

Sykes could get life in prison if convicted. His bail is set at $1 million. A pre-trial hearing for the three has been scheduled for July 11.

A fourth boy will not be charged in adult court and a judge is expected to decide whether the fifth suspect will face adult charges on Aug. 10.

Police say the suspects belong to the Southside Mafia street gang.
