Monrovia's AeroVironment Increases Security Amid Terrorist Threat

MONROVIA (CBS) — Authorities have increased security at a Monrovia company amid allegations of threats made by Al-Qaeda against some of its top executives.

Monrovia city officials say the threats against 11 senior AeroVironment, Inc. executives appeared on a jihadist website. The company says the threatened individuals have all been notified and are taking precautions.

"We're working with the local and the federal agencies and helping to coordinate for security," said a Monrovia city employee.

AeroVironment makes unmanned drones, such as the Hummingbird, used in the war on terror.

On Friday, member of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, D-Pasadena, said, "At this point, there is no evidence that any threats against local businesses or individuals have reached an operational stage and many thousands of these kind of threats have proved no more than idle rants over the years."

AeroVironment declined to comment.
